I hope I do not regret passing along this warning.
I have been a victim of false allegations and I know many, many men who have.
A friend of mine, an MD with 40 odd years of practice and an impeccable record was accused by one patient with mental problems of inappropriate touching had his medical licence cancelled for life for this. He had never had even one prior complaint.
A lawyer I know who was a CanLaw client was accused by a woman client and he was disbarred. He had never had even one prior complaint.
KNOW AND REMEMBER THIS
People who tell serious lies actually come to believe their lies. They would easily pass a lie detector test. Cross examination will not shake them
False memories are easily created. You can test it for yourself. Talk to a friend about a shared event. Embellish with some fabricated details.
Check back a week or two later and chances are your friend will remember the fabricated details.
So is it any wonder the courts, who work on a “believe the victim” basis, find accussers credible?
Stalin used to remove people from official photos (Trotsky was a prime example) and everyone believed the revised photo was accurate.
Now we are doing the same to men on a daily basis. We are now in the same boat.
Beware It can happen to you
Sorry, but the daily condemnations in the paper really have to stop.
speaking personally not as a CanLaw worker
Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.
Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
